Arrival
Leaving the 21st century guests follow a track through the forest for about a kilometer and arrive directly at the front door.
The bedrooms
- Each room is furnished in its own style as in a family home (with Arts and Crafts and Art Deco dominating).
- In their room our guests will find a hospitality tray with a kettle, a choice of infusions, tea and coffee, mineral water and fruits (from the orchard, when possible), as well as hot water bottle and hairdryer.
- For a good night’s sleep : peace and quiet of course, but also the quality of mattresses with individually pocketed springs.
Hospitality
- On the landing, a « resource cupboard » provides everything you may have forgotten (tooth brush, razor, etc, etc…).
- a laundry room is available for a last minute piece of ironing before a reception.
- slippers, dressing gowns, rubber boots, anoraks … are also available if guests wish.
- in the evening, there is a fire in the drawing room or, in fine weather, the gardeners (your hosts) often like to celebrate the end of a day’s work with an apéritif around a bonfire.
The LIbrary
- The books reflect our interests : history, literature, 19th & 20th centuries, France and Great Britain, popular culture and fine arts, as well as photography, film, jazz, detective fiction. Just borrow what takes your fancy.
- To help you organise outings there are books and brochures on the Perche, Maine, Ile de France ; cathedrals, festivals, concerts, brocantes, restaurants and transport.
- If you don’t know what to choose, "Dr Roger" will be happy to prescribe a course of reading.
Eating at La Mouchère
- Breakfast is a special moment : a variety of breads and croissants, crisp from the Aga, fresh fruit and our own preserves, produce from local farms or our own orchard. Our jams (mirabelle, quince, plum, greengage, cherry) are homemade and with very low added sugar (about 20%). Individually prepackaged microportions, our « bête noire », are nowhere to be seen.
- For evening meals (by reservation only), our approach is the same : fresh local produce but without making a fetish of regional specialities ; our experience of London and Sussex has taught us to enjoy a wide range of tastes and spices. We also think that vegetarians are entitled to as much consideration as meat-eaters. Don’t forget to let us know about any special dietary requirements or allergies.
- The Aperitive. We like to invite our guests to share the aperitive with us, getting to know them better whether or not they are dining at La Mouchère.
Dogs are welcome
Well trained and sociable dogs are welcome at La Mouchère, welcome and not simply tolerated.
They can run free in the grounds and the « dogs’ bathroom », (an old « lavoir » with a deep sink, hot water and handshower) means that they can come back clean after their explorations.
Nevertheless we ask their masters to play their part, keeping control of their charges (by voice, or if necessary with a lead) and picking up on the terrace or close to the house.
Beloved vehicles
Whether "vintage", "classic" or simply treasured, cars can be safely parked at La Mouchère ; two closed garages are also available.
